It is one of the regions with the most characteristic and full of history and culture in all Italy, we speak of the Marche.
From the fame of the Duchy of Urbino, famous all over the world during the Renaissance period, up to the centrality covered by the port of Ancona in the period in which the Marche were incorporated into the state of the Church.
The region has always breathed a wind full of culture. It is not by chance that famous artists such as Raffaello, Gioacchino Rossini, Giacomo Leopardi, just to name a few, were born there.
Even the landscape lives on an equal and equally luxuriant variety that characterizes the different areas. The Marche is a region to be discovered in all its entirety: here, therefore, some itineraries to follow divided by province, so it is practically impossible to miss even one.
Marche itineraries in the province of Pesaro-Urbino
One of the most suggestive and famous provinces of the Marche region, that of Pesaro-Urbino. Note to remember: both cities must be seen, absolutely. I suggest you read What to see in Urbino. An itinerary based on this area cannot fail to include even a small stop in the nearby Republic of San Marino, so it is advisable to forsee an overnight stay halfway.
The prices of hotels in Gabicce 3 stars are quite convenient and the town, in addition to enjoying an excellent position on the sea (it is in this small town where the famous bay of angels is located), is also an excellent hub and stopping point equidistant from Pesaro as well as from the Republic of San Marino.
From there you can move to the medieval villages of Carpegna or Sassocorvaro. The first is the capital of the Sasso Simone and Simoncello regional natural park, a park in which a series of very characteristic paths and trails branch out in the green (absolutely recommended for those who love hiking). Sassocorvaro is instead a village born around 1061-1200 which still retains that aspect so strongly linked to the past, a real small pearl.
Marche itineraries in the province of Ancona
Going down towards the province of Ancona, the fulcrum of the itineraries moves mainly on the seaside resorts, but not only. There is the mountainous Riviera di Conero, almost overlooking the sea, with crystal clear beaches at its feet. The ancient Abbadia of San Pietro is hosted in the town of Conero, a church whose origins date back to the early 1000s. It is a real “rare piece”, given its long history and distant foundation.
A tour in the province of Ancona cannot be deprived of a stop at Senigallia, even if only to taste the touch of the velvet beach: fine and always warm sand, on which walking will be a pleasant relief.
Marche itineraries in the province of Macerata
In the province of Macerata, one visit that I suggest you not to miss is the one at Abbey of Fiastra. It is the most important monastic building in the entire region and stands in an enviable position, right in the heart of Valley of Chienti. It has the advantage of having the classic aspect typical of the valleys: an undisputed green interrupted only by the river, the Chienti, which flows right inside it.
For those who love a close contact with nature, the Frasassi caves, in the municipality of Genga, are not to be missed. Caves with huge stalactite and stalagmite formations that stand out from the ceiling or rise from the ground, and, to be honest, are nothing short of spectacular. And for those who love history? The recommended stop is the one in Tolentino .
